One of the most amazing and engaging events in Venice.
The “Redentore Feast” takes place every year on the third Sunday of July. The day before, on the Saturday, Saint Mark’s Basin gets packed with all sorts of private boats, celebrating and waiting for a magnificent firework show.
The Redentore Feast celebrates the day Venice got rid of one of the worst plagues ever. On that occasion, a magnificent church was built, by the famous architect Andrea Palladio, as a token of thanksgiving to the Christ Redeemer. The Government stated that from then on, the city was to celebrate that anniversary every year, by building a temporary bridge on boats to connect the centre to Giudecca island, in order to reach the new church.
This celebration is still one of the most beloved traditions of Venice, after nearly 5 centuries.
